Kunstplatform De Kapsalon (Artplatform The Barbershop)

De Kapsalon started in November 2009. The barbershop is located in the Afrikaanderwijk in the South of Rotterdam. De Kapsalon invites (starting) artists in the 40 square metres of an old barbershop to go wild. Workshops, installations, experiments, open workspaces, circus tents: nothing is too crazy. De Kapsalon knows no rules. If you have a plan, simply come over and talk about it.

Besides having an own space, it’s important for De Kapsalon to help artists as much as possible. One recent example is the ‘Marathon Kapsalon’ they organized at the Centre of Visual Arts (CBK) during the Museumnight festival: here 25 artists were brought together.

The surrounding neighborhood is an important aspect of the activities. Every Wednesday and Saturday there is a big market opposite to the building. It is a nice opportunity for artists to experiment with the public space by means of an intervention or performance.
